Tayntons expands with new Head of Employment

16th November 2010 17:20

Ian Pettifer was previously Head of Employment at a leading Warwickshire law firm, which was regularly singled out in the Legal 500 for specialist expertise in Employment Law, and he brings over 13 years’ employment law experience to the new role.  During his career he has advised individuals and businesses including start-ups and sole traders, large UK corporates, major multi-nationals, public sector bodies, trade unions and company directors on many aspects of employment law.

With an MA in Industrial Relations from Warwick University and also as a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development, Ian has a detailed and working knowledge of HR issues and advises on legal matters within the context of workplace management. He regularly provides training and lectures on legislative changes in employment law.

Commenting on his new role, Ian says: “Tayntons has a strong and well-established reputation in the region and I am delighted to be joining an expanding practice. We are one of very few firms in Gloucester to offer a specialist employment law service and are well positioned to expand our services to businesses and people across the region as they navigate the turbulent times ahead.”

“The region’s employment market continues to be seriously tested with spending cuts impacting on the public sector and on private enterprise.  With unemployment leading to increasing numbers of Employment Tribunal claims, this can be a worrying time for employers, who need commercial and practical working solutions.  At the same time, we are seeing an increasing number of success stories with local people building new and start-up businesses.  In this economic climate, the right advice at the right time can help rescue businesses as well as build solid new companies and opportunities.”

Based in Tayntons’ Clarence Street office in Gloucester, Ian will be advising businesses and individuals on all employment-related issues and problems arising at work, including HR support, company restructuring, redundancy and reorganisations, workplace disputes, Employment Tribunals, equality and family friendly policies. Ian will use his expertise in HR to help organisations to gain the best from their staff, identifying solutions to workplace issues, creating effective performance management systems, and assisting organisations to avoid risk by treating staff fairly and decently.

Joanne Thompson, Head of Litigation at Tayntons, comments on Ian’s appointment: “We are delighted to announce Ian’s appointment and welcome him to the team. He brings valuable skills which add to the depth and range of expertise already in place here. Ian’s strong track record dealing with all nature of business, management and staff issues and his undoubted talents will help us grow the team and build on our areas of expertise.”

“Ian’s appointment is the first in a number of new recruits for the team as part of Tayntons’ planned expansion of its employment division, as we seek to respond to changes in the regional employment market and the growing level of instructions to help businesses and people solve problems at work.”
