Young legal hopefuls from Denmark Road High School experienced life in the legal world as part of a week-long work experience programme at Gloucestershire law firm Tayntons.
During their placement at the firm's Clarence Street offices in Gloucester, Year 10 students Megan Davies and Adele Franghiadi spent each day in a different department with specialist teams, gaining insight into all aspects of the law including employment, family and corporate law. The budding lawyers observed client meetings, reviewed case law and files, undertook legal research and helped compile contracts.
As part of the organised programme, Tayntons' head of employment law Ian Pettifer shed light on the famous landmark case of British Home Stores v Burchell, asking the girls to assess the case and its implications for employers and the workplace.
Ian commented: "It has been great to meet Adele and Megan and I hope we've managed to give them an interesting insight into life in the legal field and also inspire them in their future career choices."
Tayntons also went 'back to school' to Denmark Road several months ago when Ian Pettifer gave a series of talks to Year 10 students about young people's rights at work. Students gleaned information on the age they were legally allowed to work and the type of work they could undertake.
Ian said: "The job market has never been more competitive, especially for young people entering the workplace and as a firm we are keen to support and encourage local students as they embark on their careers. We hope our work experience programme goes some way to help equip them with some of the vital information, practical tools and skills needed for the workplace."
