Family Law Solicitors at Tayntons LLP, Gloucester lead the way in the new Family Proceedings Rules 2010

31st March 2011 12:12

The Family Law team at Tayntons LLP showed that they were once more leading from the front in the progressive area of Family Law on Thursday 24th March when, in conjunction with St Johns Chambers, they played host to a seminar of over forty Gloucestershire based legal professionals.

During the seminar Barristers Catriona Duthie and Jody Atkinson discussed and reviewed the new Family Proceedings Rules 2010 which will come into force on 6th April 2011.  These rules will have far reaching consequences for legal practitioners in England and Wales and will modernise Family Law as we currently know it.  Their purpose is to provide a single set of rules for the Courts regularly used by family solicitors, namely the County Court, Family Proceedings Court (Magistrates Court) and the High Court; with the rules taking their model from the Civil Procedure rules used in civil disputes.  The rules will also be written in clear, modern language- quite a step forward from previous rules.

As a result, not only have procedures been modified, standard Court forms have also been altered.  Therefore, it is worth noting that if you are going to initiate divorce proceedings or other family related proceedings at Court in coming weeks, as of 6th April 2011 new forms will need to be used.
